We at Art Europe offer a variety of different bidding methods: from experiencing the auction in person, to placing bids on our website or via the telephone bidding. Next to our own website, we also offer the use of external bidding platforms such as The-Saleroom and Invaluable, giving you the opportunity to bid from the comfort of your own home.

All of our sales are available to view in person during our viewing days and our online. If you are new to the auction process, use the below step-by-step guide to buying at Art Europe. For more information about our policies, please read our terms and conditions.

1 Register to Bid

In order to purchase your desired item(s) at Art Europe, you first need to register with Art Europe Auctions. Our online registration process is quick and simple. First make sure that you are using a compatible browser. We suggest to use Chrome. Note that Safari does not support our online bidding platform and you will not be able to register yourself when using Safari.

You will only need to register with us to browse the online catalogues, from hereonout you will be able to sign up for each auction to bid via our bidding platform. A more detailed explanation on how to register and place bids, see step 3 Bidding Methods. Once you have a Art Europe Auctions account, you will able to manage your bids, compile a personalised wishlist, view your bidding results and manage your payments.

If you decide to attend an auction in person, you will also be asked to provide proof of identification each time you visit to ensure the safety of you and your fellow bidders.


 

2 Choosing Your Item

Create your account to browse our catalogues online to discover what is coming up in each of our auctions. Click here to view our fully illustrated auction catalogues. You can search by: lot number, keywords, or by simply scrolling the catalogue pages. We provide detailed descriptions and condition reports, upon request, to give you a better idea of the item you are interesting in purchasing.

Printed version of our catalogue are able to be purchased upon request. Simply mail info@arteuropeauctions.com for more information about receiving one of our printed catalogues.

The viewing times for each auction can be found in our catalogue listings and at the front of each printed catalogue. These are also visible at each designated auction page. Our friendly specialists are always happy to answer any queries you have. Their contact details can be found on the department pages of this website.


 

3 Bidding Methods

We offer four different methods of bidding at Art Europe Auctions, providing you with a convenient and flexible auction experience;

In Person

There is nothing quite as exciting as bidding in person at a live auction. We regularly welcome
customers from around the world into our saleroom. If you choose to bid in person, you will need to provide either your driving license or passport in order for you to receive a paddle number. Then, let the bidding begin.

Once the auction has started, take a seat and the auctioneer will announce the bidding increments for each lot. If you wish to bid on an item, please raise your hand or paddle (provided upon registration)

If there is no one else bidding against you, the auctioneer will bring down the gavel on your winning bid. You are able to pay for you winning bid right away, and place your work of art in your own home that same day.

If you are unable to attend in auction, there are three alternative methods of bidding.

Leaving Absentee Bids via our website or email

You can leave an absentee bid, up to 60 minutes before the sale start time, requesting Art Europe to bid on your behalf up to the maximum amount you have stated.

There are three options to place an absentee bid for one of our auctions:
1. You can go to our registration page and click on the link to leave an absentee bid;
2. You can place an absentee bid by logging into your online Art Europe account in the online catalogue, click on your preferred lot and leave an autobid by clicking on leave bid, or;

We will ensure that your absentee bids makes its way to the auctioneer.

Telephone Bidding on the day of the auction

We also can arrange for you to bid via the telephone, enabling you to talk directly to a member of our staff in the saleroom. Your designated Art Europe staff member will relay the auctioneer’s bids back to you and, upon you instruction, bid on your behalf. Please call +31 (0) 85 876 1903 to arrange a telephone bid, up to 60 minutes before the sale start time. Or simply e-mail bids@arteuropeauctions.com and express your desire make us of our telephone bidding services.

Live Online Bidding

We offer an online bidding service on our own website. Our online bidding platform comes with live video and audio, so you will be able to participate in the auction from nearly anywhere in the world.

In order to bid via our online bidding platform, you simply go to our registration page and click ‘online’.

Please be aware that in order to register for your preferred auction, you will need to complete a supplementary registration process, so as to register for this particular auction. This is possible on our online catalogues page, click register to bid live for e.g. Auction TWO.

Please note that the live bidding platform uses the latest version of Adobe Flash. To sign up for online bidding we suggest to use Chrome, note that Safari does not support the online bidding platform as well as the online registration process.

If you are using an iPad, iPhone or an Android device, make sure you download the flash supporting browser app called ‘Puffin’. However, we do advise you to bid from a desktop, as Puffin might delay lot visibility, audio and video on the online bidding platform.


4 Bidding Increments

Bidding increments increase at the following intervals:

5 Additional Charge Details

Additional charges, including buyers premium (24,2% including tax), local taxes, shipping expenses, loss damage liability fees, customs duty/import tax, artist’s resale rights, and all other applicable charges may apply. Artist Resale Rights

Minimum sale price below which the droit de suite will not apply: this may not be more than € 3000, or € 10,000 where the seller acquired the work of art directly from the artist less than three years before the resale.
Portion of the net sale price including buyers premium.

Resale Rights

The total amount of the royalty may not exceed € 12,500: this corresponds to a net sale price of € 2,000,000 using the normal royalty rates.


6 Payment Instructions

You must pay the full amount due (including any additional charges) no later than 11:59 p.m. (EST) 30 days after the sale date. This applies even if you wish to export the lot. You will not acquire title and own the lot until all amounts due to AEA have been received by Art Europe in full, cleared funds. Please note that purchases cannot be delivered to P.O. boxes.

All items not picked up directly after the sale will be collected by a third party shipping and transport company. From this moment onwards, their general terms and conditions will apply. Please find more informations on our art handlers by checking out the conditions of business for buyers on our website.

Collection is only available on location during or directly after the auction. Should you send someone to collect your purchase(s) on your behalf, please complete a letter of Authorization and send it to us at deirdre@arteuropeauctions.com (Private Client Services) prior to collection. Your representative must present a valid picture ID at the time of collection, such as a driver’s license or passport
